Welcome to Glist
“Glist is a subtle magic. It isn’t like wielding a wand, casting spells,
or igniting fireworks. It is delicate and demands great care, precision, and, most of all, patience.”
Twelve-year-old princess Annalise faces the challenges of royal expectations and a bratty brother when she discovers a hidden magical secret in her castle gardens. As she learns to harness her new powers—and her own wishes—danger threatens her family and Kingdom. Anna and her loved ones are pulled into an adventure that tests their courage, loyalty, and imagination.
Packed with witty banter, vivid medieval life, and a fresh magic system, this page-turner delivers an emotionally resonant tale of the cost of getting exactly what you wish for.
But wait! Why is Brad writing Fantasy? Well, because my life isn’t contained within one genre – so why should my writing be? But, if you must know, here is the backstory…
Glist: A long time coming
On Labor Day, 2000, my wife’s leg was severely injured in a freak beach accident. As a result, she was stuck in a hospital bed in our downstairs office for three months as she healed. She was miserable, and I wanted to be with her, so at night I would hunker down in a chair next to her bed and goof around on my Macintosh Powerbook 3400C.
During those empty hours, I decided to take a crack at writing a fantasy novel for her and my twelve-year-old daughter. I’d never attempted such a thing before, but it was a fun distraction from the crazy pressures of that difficult period in our lives.
A few months later I finished Glist. I let the members of my family and a few close friends read it. Then, I put the only copy—a spiral-bound, tattered stack of photocopied paper—onto the bookshelf where it sat…
…for 25 years.
While it gathered dust, I became a writer.
Recently, my wife had that same knee replaced. As a lover of irony, I decided that while she recovered, it was time to resurrect Glist.
It was originally written for my wife and daughter, but another generation is now part of the story: we have a crew of grandchildren, most of whom are avid readers.
After languishing for decades, it is time for Glist to see the light of day. Glist is an all-ages fantasy, but it is really about family, for the entire family. As it should be.
